our purpose
IMOD is redefining the scope of a traditional museum through online and in-person experiences that celebrate, integrate and teach dance across communities, cultures and generations worldwide. IMOD is building this vibrant, inclusive ecosystem in partnership with notable artists, educators, technology innovators, and cultural institutions, elevating the diversity, interconnectedness, and cultural impact of an indispensable universal art form.
IMOD democratizes dance for artists, students and audiences through groundbreaking technology and interactive in-person exhibits and performances. International Museum of Dance:
• creates educational experiences for the public to explore dance
• provides platforms for all dance artists’ voices and works to be supported and shared
• offers spaces for works by diverse dance artists to be protected and contextualized
• champions the future of dance by building allies and support through public engagement
• plans to host a landmark bricks and mortar museum in San Francisco!
Conceived in 2016 and officially founded in 2018 by dancer, choreographer and entrepreneur Hilary Palanza Gutkin, the International Museum of Dance has chapters in San Francisco, Santa Fe, NM and Philadelphia. We are a certified nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.
