Angel Guanajuato

Angel Guanajuato is a New Mexico-based artist who focuses on exploring his identity and human emotion from the perspective of a queer existentialist through music, poetry, and dance. Creativity as spirituality, as change, as resistance and dissent.

As Co-Director of Community Engagement, New Mexico, Angel’s job involves deep listening and observation as to the communities needs in arts programming, events, and accessibility to it all (a major gap to the arts everywhere, but especially in the southwest).  We see our communities and strive to uplift them in their diverse voices and honor both longtime community leaders and the emerging artists of the future. IMOD gives me a platform to do this work in his  community that he believes is so integral to the future.

FAVORITES: Angel loves Step-Up for the simple fact that it exposed him to dance at such a young age!  This” show stopping” entertainment kind of dance will always have a place in his heart and allowed him to be curious about dance in his college years. Angel loves dancing with friends off to anything with a beat, and cherishes finding new songs that take away his ability to be still. From an audience perspective he appreciates a movement with story and intention, which is why Rulan Tangen (a beloved mentor of his) is one of his  favorite contemporary choreographers.
